My passion lies in translation, entrepreneurship and helping people. After studying business administration at London Metropolitan University, I began my career working in finance, energy and telecommunications in Maputo, Mozambique. In 2013, I founded Navitas Group Lda, a company that aimed to disrupt the stagnant translation market in Mozambique. Mainly, I want to focus on using translation to facilitate communication between individuals and companies, as well as participating in entrepreneurial endeavors that catalyze socio-economic development. I have a depth of experience working in telecommunications, energy and new business development as well as 19 years of experience of translation and intercultural communication. I am currently pursuing a Masters in Translation and Localization Project Management at the University of Maryland, thus honing my translation skills, incorporating CAT Tools, MT and project management techniques into our company workflow and service delivery.

First, I would like to introduce myself very briefly. I am a 42-year old native Portuguese speaker, who grew, studied and, nowadays, works in Portugal (in the city with the famous hovering umbrella installation, by the way). I am a trained translator with a diploma in English and Portuguese languages and translation post-graduate studies. Before finishing university I decided to interrupt studies to work as an expatriate translator/interpreter in a construction project with a Portuguese company in Barbados. I have completed university after returning and never stopped doing what I really like: communicate between languages. My experience and skills are especially strong with medicine, IT/ICT, defence, business, marketing and legal translation, dealing with contracts, annual reports, corporate websites, bidding documents, business plans, brochures, presentations, written resolutions, and agreements, confidential emails, language assistance in meetings, also experience in diplomatic level. The total number of words over these 20 years exceeds 5,000,000 words, with companies and brand names such as Huawei, Unitel, IBM, Unilever, Suunto, Dell, Disney, Gesticer, Harley Davidson, to name a few. I am native Portuguese with excellent grammar, punctuation and spelling skills and I have almost as great skills in English. My brain is definitely bilingual. I have been a freelance Professional Translator since 2013, specializing in Business, Marketing and Social Sciences. However, I have also performed successful translations in many other different fields, such as website and app contents, legal contracts, technical manuals, automotive systems, coaching materials, among others. I am very detail and quality oriented. Before that, I was an Administrative Assistant for over 5 years. I translated some website articles as a volunteer (since 2010) and I worked for an import/export company where I was responsible for all external communications (English/Spanish). I also performed some translation work in one of the companies I worked in. I use SDL Trados 2011, but I always check my translations, sentence by sentence, for grammar, meaning and vocabulary use - no automatic translations! I am also very proficient in manual translations, which many clients demand in order to attain better quality.

My experience as a translator ranges from technical documents to entertainment texts. I am a Law Bachelor and I have worked as a tax advisor, writing and proofreading documents in both English and Portuguese as daily jobs. I worked also on the Brazilian localization of EA’s FIFA 18 and Need for Speed Payback. My job was to ensure all texts and audio were properly translated for the Brazilian market, checking if these assets were correctly implemented in-game and that they fitted the game style and natural flow of the language. Such experience lit my desire of building bridges between different cultures and breaking down the language barriers between them. In my case, Portuguese is spoken by more than 255 million people, of which 210 million are Brazilians alone. However, the majority of the lusophone population has no understanding of the English language, and English speakers too have generally no knowledge of Portuguese. This is an obstacle I want to help undo.
