My name is Martin Sonia, a professional translator. I have been working with the GENGO team since 2014.

I am Turkish and Azerbaijani citizen, and speaking both languages as mother tongue. I have studied an English medium university and hence, I speak English fluently. Besides, I worked in Russia and learnt Russian language also.

After working in different industries for over 10 years, I've started working as a freelance translator seven years ago. I'm currently a sworn translator with extensive experience in the translation of business/finance, legal, and academic documents including business procedures/processes/reports, agreements, research papers, website content, instruction manuals etc. in areas such as banking, oil/energy, construction/architecture, IT, etc.. I have been doing translations since 2006. I'm also running a translation agency, however that's a separate business, and you can be sure that all translations at smartcat are done by me personally. I am a certified translator, conference interpreter, engineer and Candidate of technical sciences (kandidat nauk). My language-related hobbies include etymology and comparative linguistics. * Yes, I do speak several languages. * No, I am not fluent enought in French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Polish, Azerbaijani or Arabic to translate TO these languages, but I do understand them enough to translate FROM them.

Working as localization specialist for major accounts in IT, marketing, ERP, technical and legal since 2015. Before being freelancer, I have worked in company which is exclusive SAP SE localization partner in Turkey. I took part in localization of corporate and legal texts as well as translation processes of the SAP SE systems. Aside from ERP, I have gained experience in IT, marketing and technical texts. During my career, I have also worked as a project manager for 9 months and managed projects for major companies from IT, marketing (mainly tourism and travel) and technical fields.

I am a passionate and experienced translator, who has a degree in French-English-Turkish translation and interpretation. I have also lived in Germany for 4 years and can translate from German to Turkish. I am working as a full-time translator at the Ministry of Justice in Turkey. I also work at the Turkish Standards Institution as a part-time language expert and translate EC and ISO standards into Turkish.
